FAST-FC is an open-source modeling toolbox for PEMFCs and other types of fuel cells and electrolyzers.  FAST-FC is built in C++ on top of an open-source CFD code that provides a highly parallel and robust finite volume approach.  The FAST fuel cell module is FAST-FC (FAST for Fuel Cells) and it provides a performance and durability modeling toolbox with modes for steady-state and transient simulations that are critical to designing the MEA, unit cell, stack, and overall fuel cell system.  FAST-FC also includes the capability to simulate drive-cycles, ASTs, and diagnostic methods such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry.

Current development in the FAST platform is focused on completing the initial releases of the source code, including an improved membrane model that improves the understanding of hydration and dehydration of the proton exchange membrane materials.  Longer term the development will steer to user experience improvements such as a overall graphic user interface.

FAST-FC provides a fully open source code fuel cell model for PEMFCs that focuses on a first-principles approach to predicting the performance and degradation phenomena within the Unit Cell, Membrane Electrode Assembly, and catalyst layers.
